What Identification Do I Need to Get a White Card? | Blue Dog Training
To get a White Card, you will need valid photo identification such as a driver's licence or passport, and a USI (Unique Student Identifier). Your ID is used to verify your identity at enrolment and on the day of your training. Getting your ID sorted before you book saves time and avoids any hold-ups on the day.
This is one of those things that sounds complicated but really is not. If you have a driver's licence and five minutes to set up a USI online, you are basically ready to go.
What ID is accepted for a White Card with Blue Dog Training?
For most students, you will need to provide at least one form of current, valid photo identification. Accepted forms of photo ID typically include:
- Australian driver's licence or learner's permit
- Australian or foreign passport
- Proof of age card issued by a Queensland government authority
- Medicare card (may be accepted in combination with another document)
The exact ID requirements may vary slightly depending on your delivery mode and your state of residence. If you are unsure what to bring, contact the Blue Dog Training team ahead of your session and we will confirm exactly what you need.
Those completing a Queensland White Card who do not have identification issued by Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (such as a QLD driver's licence) will need to produce three different forms of identification. Specific details can be found on our course details page.
What is a USI and do I really need one?
Yes, you absolutely need a USI. It is a legal requirement for any nationally recognised training in Australia. The USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a reference number that creates a secure online record of all the nationally recognised training you complete throughout your life.
The good news is that getting a USI is free, quick, and straightforward. Visit usi.gov.au and follow the steps. You will need your own ID to verify your identity when you set up your USI. The whole process usually takes about five minutes.
If you already have a USI from previous training, use the same one. All your training records accumulate under the same number.
What about students doing the White Card through school?
Queensland secondary school students doing the White Card as part of a VETiS program will also need their LUI (Learner Unique Identifier) in addition to their USI and Student ID. Your LUI is issued by your school. If you do not know yours, your school administration can provide it.
What if I do not have a driver's licence?
A driver's licence is the most commonly used form of ID but it is not the only option. A valid passport is perfectly acceptable. If you do not have either, contact the Blue Dog Training team and we will help you work out what you can use.
Do not let the ID question stop you from booking. We can work through it with you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Can I enrol without a USI and get it later?
A: You need your USI before your training can be finalised and your qualification issued. We strongly recommend getting your USI before you enrol to avoid any delays.
Q: My licence is expired. Can I use it as ID?
A: ID needs to be current and valid. An expired licence is generally not accepted. Use a passport or another current government-issued photo ID instead.
Q: I am an international student or visa holder. Can I still get a White Card?
A: Yes, provided you meet the ID and residency requirements. Contact the Blue Dog Training team to discuss your specific situation and we will advise you on what documentation is required.
Q: Do I need to bring physical copies of my ID or can I show them on my phone?
A: For face-to-face sessions, you must show your original physical documents when you attend the class for verification purposes. For online enrolment, digital copies are typically uploaded through our system, which must also be verified during the class. Check your confirmation email for specific instructions.
