Apprenticeship Qualifications

Construction apprentices keep job sites moving and projects on track. Blue Dog Training delivers practical, flexible carpentry training that supports real work and builds confidence on the tools.
Our construction programs develop solid trade foundations, safe site behaviours and the hands on capability apprentices need to grow into skilled carpenters.
We work side by side with employers to build consistent skills and strong work habits so apprentices can make an impact on site from day one.
How Our Training is Delivered
Blue Dog Training uses a workplace based model that allows construction apprentices to learn on the job with strong support from an experienced trainer. Every trainer is trade qualified and works with both the apprentice and the employer to build a training plan that fits the worksite and the scope of tasks available.
Theory is completed through our online learning platform, and practical progress is tracked through the Skills Profiler app. This gives apprentices the flexibility to complete training around workload demands and gives employers clear oversight of development.
To begin a Certificate III in Carpentry, apprentices must be employed in the trade, have a broad scope of carpentry work, and be supervised by a qualified tradesperson.

Apprenticeship FAQs

This is dependent on a variety of factors including your age, eligibility requirements and previous trade experience. Costs specific to your training are provided in greater detail on the relevant course page or the Blue Dog Training Student Handbook.
What is RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning)?
Workers are recognised for existing skills and can complete their trade in a shorter time
When can I start my apprenticeship?
Courses can be started as soon as you are ready. Courses are individualised and tailored to the employerβs scope of work.
Where do you provide apprentice training?
The training for both Carpentry and Engineering apprenticeships are delivered solely in Queensland and on the jobsite.
Do I have to travel for block training?
No Block Training! The apprentice learns practical skills on site with their employer and covers the theory online at their own pace during down-time.
How long will my apprenticeship take?
The Blue Dog training model appeals to apprentices eager to take charge of their own training journey. The program is self-paced with most apprentices completing within a span of four (4) years. Apprentices may accelerate their training progress, subject to the approval of their employer.
Who will be my trainer?
Blue Dog Training trainers are all experienced tradesmen and qualified trainers and assessors. After more than a decade, Blue Dog Training still has many of its original trainers, providing stability for employers and apprentices. Apprentices and employers have access to the same trainer for the entire apprenticeship. The trainer will mentor the apprentice to become a quality tradesperson.
Can my employer view all of my training?
Employers or the office coordinator can access a complete record of their apprentice's progress via an employer login. Your designated Blue Dog Trainer is the key point of contact for both the apprentice and the employer.
