Is a Queensland White Card Accepted in Other States? | Blue Dog Training

Yes. A Queensland White Card is nationally recognised and accepted on construction sites in every state and territory across Australia. You do not need to get a new White Card if you move interstate or take on work in another state. One card covers you everywhere.

This is one of the most frequently misunderstood things about the White Card. The simple answer is: if you have a White Card issued anywhere in Australia, it is valid everywhere in Australia. Queensland is no different.

Why is the Queensland White Card accepted nationally?

The White Card is based on the nationally accredited unit of competency CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry. Because the unit is part of the nationally recognised training system, any White Card issued by an accredited RTO in any state meets the same standard and is accepted nationwide.

Blue Dog Training is a registered RTO (RTO 31193) operating under the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). The White Cards we issue in Queensland meet every national requirement.

    Are there any exceptions?

Strictly speaking there are no exceptions. Any White Card issued in any Australian state or territory is valid in every Australian state and territory. However, be mindful that some employers may require a specific state/territory issued White Card based on their own internal processes, however our consultation with industry shows this is really uncommon practice.

Does my Queensland White Card expire?

No. White Cards issued in Queensland do not have an expiry date. Once you have your White Card, it is yours for life. You do not need to renew it or retest. The only exception would be if your card is cancelled for serious safety breaches, but this is very rare.

The same applies nationally. White Cards issued under the national framework do not expire.

What if I lost my White Card?

If you have lost your White Card, Blue Dog Training offers a replacement White Card service. Visit bluedogtraining.com.au/en-au/replacement-white-card to find out how to apply for a replacement.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: I got my White Card years ago in another state. Is it still valid in Queensland?

A: Yes. As long as your White Card was issued by an accredited RTO under the national framework, it remains valid in Queensland and across Australia. The only exception are old style New South Wales issued green cards.

Q: Does my employer need to see my White Card before I start work?

A: Yes. Your employer or site manager is required to verify that you hold a valid White Card before allowing you on site. Keep it somewhere safe and accessible.

Q: What if my card looks different to the current White Card design?

A: Card designs have changed over the years. Older cards are usually still valid even if they look different to current versions. What matters is that the card was issued by an accredited RTO.

Q: Do I need a separate White Card for each state I work in?

A: No. One nationally recognised White Card is all you need to work on construction sites across Australia.
