Can I Do My White Card Online? | Blue Dog Training
Yes, you can absolutely do your White Card online if you are physically located in Western Australia or Tasmania. Blue Dog Training offers two delivery options that don't require in-person attendance: a fully self-paced online course you complete through our student portal offered to our WA and TAS students, and a Virtual Classroom option via Zoom with a live trainer, offered to our QLD students. Both result in the same nationally recognised White Card.
Online White Card training has come a long way. We were actually one of the first RTOs in Australia to offer online White Card training, and we have refined it significantly over more than two decades. The content is practical, the assessment is straightforward, and the whole thing is designed to work around your life, not the other way around.
What are my online White Card options with Blue Dog Training?
Option 1: Self-paced online - WA and TAS only
This is the most flexible option. You log into our student portal, work through the theory and assessment activities at your own pace, and you have up to three months from enrolment to complete. Most learners get it done in a single sitting or across a couple of sessions.
You can save and exit at any point and pick up exactly where you left off. There is no fixed schedule and no need to travel anywhere.
Option 2: Virtual Classroom via Zoom - QLD only
If you prefer the experience of a live trainer but do not want to travel to a physical location, the Virtual Classroom option is ideal. You join a scheduled Zoom session with a qualified Blue Dog Training trainer and other learners. It runs like a face-to-face class, just through your screen.
You get the benefit of being able to ask questions in real time and having a tradie trainer walk you through the content, without having to leave home.
Is an online White Card or virtual classroom the same as a face-to-face one?
Yes. The course is the same: CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry, delivered by Blue Dog Training as a nationally accredited RTO (RTO 31193). The White Card you receive is accepted on construction sites right across Australia regardless of which delivery mode you chose.
Both face-to-face and online options cover exactly the same requirements and meet the same national standards.
How long does an online White Card or virtual classroom take to complete?
For the self-paced option, you have up to three months to complete, but most people finish in a few hours. For the Virtual Classroom option, sessions run on set dates and typically take a similar amount of time to a face-to-face session.
Once you complete your training and pass the assessment, your Statement of Attainment is issued by Blue Dog Training and your White Card follows shortly after if you're in WA or QLD. Tasmanian students will need to visit WorkSafe Tasmania for their White Card.
What do I need for an online White Card or virtual classroom?
- A device with internet access: laptop, tablet, or desktop. Some mobile devices will work for the self-paced option but a larger screen makes for a more comfortable experience.
- A valid USI (Unique Student Identifier). Get yours free at usi.gov.au before you enrol.
- Valid photo ID - specific requirements will vary by state.
- Access to 4 PPE items - a hard hat, hi-vis shirt/jacket, eye protection, and hearing protection.
- A working camera and microphone are required so the trainer can interact with you.
Can I do a virtual classroom White Card if I live regionally in Queensland?
Absolutely. This is one of the biggest benefits of this option. Whether you are in Far North Queensland, the Darling Downs, Central Queensland, or anywhere else across the state, you can complete your White Card without needing to travel to a training centre. Our course is available to learners anywhere in Queensland.

Q: Is an online White Card accepted by employers and site managers?
A: Yes. An online White Card from Blue Dog Training is nationally recognised and accepted on construction sites across Australia. The delivery mode is not relevant to its validity.
Q: Can I start my online White Card the same day I enrol?
A: In most cases, yes. Once your enrolment is confirmed and your student portal access is set up, you can begin your training immediately.

A: The self-paced online option is available 24/7. You can work through it at any time that suits you. To finish your assessment, you'll need to do a PPE fitting exercise, which is conducted in real time during our business hours through Zoom.
