    Working at Heights Awareness
    The Working at Heights Awareness course is an introductory training resource that was designed to provide up-to-date knowledge for people who are required to work at heights. This course will ensure that participants learn the hazards associated with working at heights, and the operation of basic height safety equipment. It will also cover other necessary information about working at heights, including:

    • Snap hooks and karabiners
    • Mechanical lifting equipment
    • Inspection and maintenance requirements for equipment used for this type of work
    • Legislative requirements
    • Restraint/fall systems
    • Control measures

    Hydraulics Short Course

    This hydraulics course is for professionals working with mining, construction and agricultural machinery that use liquid fluid power.

    Participants will be stepped through 45 topic areas, which will include:

    • Hydraulic Systems – Introductory theory about hydraulic systems, hydraulic fluids and volumetric efficiency.
    • Maintenance – Preventative maintenance, systems testing and testing equipment, dismantling and assembling hydraulics, replacement and repair of parts, hazard and safety procedures.
    • Hydraulic Pumps – Overview of different pumps (Vane, Piston, Gear, Positive and Non-Positive).
    • Schematics & System Operation – Interpreting a schematic, hydraulic system components and their operation.
    • Hydraulic Valves – Application and operation of various valve types, configuration and control methods for various valve types.

    Elevated Work Platform Awareness

    Before operating an elevated work platform (EWP) to a height of 11 metres, workers must be competent in its use. To gain competency you need to have a good understanding of the legislative requirements and safe operation of equipment.

    This course is designed for people requiring the theory related to operating elevated work platforms. Alternatively, employers can use this course with their own practical training on-the-job to cover Work Health and Safety obligations. The course will cover a range of topics, including:

    • Terminology
    • Types of EWPs
    • Site Hazards
    • Pre-Operational Checking
    • Licence Requirements
    • Distance from Power Lines

    Upon completion of our course material, participants will be issued a Statement of Completion. Operators must still complete practical training on each different type of EWP that they are required to use. Once practical training has been completed, operators can use EWPs up to 11 metres without the need for a licence.

    The Elevated Platform Awareness course is not accredited; however, it does provide theory and underpinning knowledge for using EWPs safely and confidently.

    Explosive Power Tools Awareness

    This course provides an understanding of the theory and practice related to PATs/Explosive Power Tools (Ramset and Hilti).

    Before using any kind of powder-actuated tool, an operator must be a ‘competent person’. This means the operator has gained the knowledge and skills, through training and experience, to safely complete the tasks required with the tool. Operators who are colour blind must be able to demonstrate that they can identify the different charges. Extra training will be required for hazard-specific situations, such as working in confined spaces.

    The Explosive Power Tools Awareness course will cover 12 topics, which include:

    • Noise Hazards
    • General Safety Procedures
    • Inspections and Maintenance
