Blue Dog Training was founded in 2005 to develop training for the construction and engineering industries that could more adequately suit the needs of the learner, the employer and the industry. The founding directors, both successful tradesmen, transferred their trade skills and teaching experience to create the truly unique, values-driven training organisation that exists today.
Deborah Walker joined the Blue Dog Training team in 2017, after working in the Department of Education and Training for a number of years. Her position as CEO means she is constantly striving to set outstanding standards for staff and is consistently ensuring there is cohesion throughout the entire team. She enjoys being part of a diverse and encouraging team and is always seeking new ways to help Blue Dog Training develop and grow.
Brad Deas started his carpentry apprenticeship in 1991, and proceeded to work as a subbie before becoming a registered builder. He then moved on to train apprentices at an institute, and it was at this time that Brad and his business partner Kris Andre met. They knew there was a need for a customised training solution with better outcomes for apprentices, and this needed to happen at a time and place that suited employers. Blue Dog Training was established in 2004 to achieve this. Brad enjoys seeing people take an opportunity and build on it, especially when the odds are against them. He is extremely proud of all of Blue Dog’s accomplishments, but rates the team culture as Blue Dog’s greatest achievement.
Kris Andre was interested in the construction industry from a young age, and officially started a carpentry and joinery apprenticeship at 17. After finishing his apprenticeship, he worked as a sub-contractor and later went on to get his builder licence. Helping the apprentices on site inspired him to enrol in a Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training to pursue a career in training apprentices. He soon landed a job working in an institute as a trainer, where he met his business partner, Brad Deas. They both felt that learning should be incorporated to benefit both the apprentice and the employer, and brought Blue Dog Training to life to accomplish this. Kris is dedicated to the constant improvement of Blue Dog Training, and is pleased to have such a motivated and inspiring team of staff.
David is a trade-qualified carpenter/joiner and concreter and has also attained a Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification. As the Training Manager at Blue Dog, David still enjoys mentoring young people to become hard-working, competent and honest. He plays a pivotal role in championing company values such as integrity, teamwork, persistence, flexibility and empowerment amongst the training team.
Anthony is a trade-qualified carpenter who has spent time in the Australian Defence Force. He enjoys working with other qualified tradesmen to deliver high-quality apprenticeship training.
Brendan is a qualified carpenter and paratrooper who was involved in training throughout his military career. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of the trade to help apprentices navigate their way through their apprenticeships.
Dan joined the construction industry in 2003, working in project management for a regional council. He joined Blue Dog Training in 2016 and has gained a lot of satisfaction from passing on his knowledge to help others achieve their goal of becoming successful tradespeople.
Ed has trained Blue Dog carpentry apprentices for over 10 years. With 37 years of experience working as a carpenter/builder, Ed has a wealth of knowledge about the building industry. He enjoys sharing his skills and expertise with his apprentices, knowing that the trade they are learning could support them for life.
Kerry has been in the construction industry since 1995, and joined Blue Dog Training in 2013, after a successful career as a sub-contractor. Motivated by a desire to help others achieve their potential within the industry, being a Blue Dog trainer allows him to continue his active involvement with apprentices and employers.
Luke has been a part of the construction industry since 1994, working as a contract builder and trainer for Certificate IV-level courses. Luke has had the satisfaction of training his own apprentices as a builder and believes current apprentices can benefit greatly from Blue Dog's modern approach to training.
Mark is a qualified carpenter/builder and has worked on projects all over Australia and overseas in Papua New Guinea. He joined Blue Dog Training in 2016 and has enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the development of good-quality, professional tradespeople.
Steve is a trade-qualified carpenter who has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years. As a member of the Blue Dog team, Steve can pass on his skills, knowledge and life experiences to his apprentices as they progress towards becoming confident tradespeople.
Brian completed a dual-trade qualification in boilermaking, welding and mechanical fitting. He has enjoyed an interesting career working on a large scope of projects and types of worksites. Brian joined Blue Dog Training in 2008 and enjoys contributing to the development of the next generation of tradespeople.
Grant completed a trade qualification as a fitter and turner, followed by a teaching degree in Education. He taught school students for 11 years, becoming a Head of Department in Vocational Education, before joining Blue Dog. As VETiS Manager, Grant works with schools to strengthen their vocational programs, and prepare the next generation of tradespeople for the workforce.
Andre has been part of the Blue Dog Training team since 2017. His role involves working with students in the VETiS program to help them transition into the workplace. He is passionate about helping students with their first career break, and matching employers to great apprentices with all the right attributes.
Chris has been in the construction industry since 2004 and started with Blue Dog Training in 2015. A carpenter by trade, Chris has a long-held interest in teaching/training. As a VETiS trainer he gets to pass on his skills and knowledge of construction to school students every day.
Chris has an extensive mechanical background, including repairing and assembling machinery for use in fabrication. His excavation and renovation work also give him a well-rounded view of the construction industry. Chris uses his knowledge of both engineering and construction to effectively deliver the VETiS program to students across Queensland.
Garrick has been in the construction industry since 2007 and started with Blue Dog Training in 2015. Garrick holds trade qualifications in Coach and Motor Body Building, Carpentry, Electro-technology and a teaching degree in Education. Being a VETiS trainer has been a perfect combination of his trade experience and teaching skills.
Jarrod has worked in lead and supervisory roles as a trade-qualified carpenter. He is passionate about teaching high-school students the trade skills covered in the VETiS program, and considers his trainer role as a way of giving back to the building industry by passing on his trade knowledge.
Mitch is a trade-qualified electrician who also holds a Diploma of Business. Mitch employed several apprentices while running his own business, so he knows what employers are looking for in potential apprentices. He enjoys helping students develop the skills required for life in the workforce.
Shane has 23 years of experience as a Manual Arts teacher, alongside trade skills gained while working in the mining industry. He has been with Blue Dog Training since 2015 and is passionate about giving students the skills they need to succeed in the construction and engineering industries.
Tim has been in the construction industry since 2006 and started with Blue Dog Training in 2015. A plumber by trade, Tim became a VETiS trainer so he could continue using his practical skills while passing on first-hand knowledge to construction students across Queensland.
Michelle, a Blue Dog since the company's inception, has managed the accounting for over a decade. She enjoys working with a great bunch of people to deliver ideal outcomes for learners in the construction and engineering industries.
Vanessa has been with Blue Dog since the beginning, and plays a crucial role in managing HR and the payroll. Vanessa has enjoyed helping the team grow and develop into what it is today.
As Client Support Manager, Krystie-Lee oversees the Client Services team and helps students who are receiving their White Card through Blue Dog Training. Joining the team in 2012, she also assists with VETiS administration tasks, and appreciates her optimistic and motivated colleagues.
Having worked in administration since 2013, Aisling brought her exceptional skills to the Blue Dog Training team in 2018. As a Trades Support Officer, Aisling assists the trainers at Blue Dog Training by helping them with tasks and performing administrative duties. She appreciates the relaxed and supportive team environment at Blue Dog Training, and enjoys contributing however she can.
Having joined the team in 2016, Libby is a Client Service Officer at Blue Dog Training. She is passionate about helping others, and appreciates the opportunity to assist learners who are obtaining their White Card through Blue Dog Training. She enjoys the encouragement of her colleagues, and admires their hard work and enthusiasm.
Fons'position as Resource Developer allows him to produce learning resources that provide learners with current knowledge of the construction industry. Fons worked in construction for over a decade before deciding to pass on his knowledge to VET students. His combined experience in construction and VET training then gave him the opportunity to join the Blue Dog Training team in 2017. He enjoys using his skills and knowledge to create training materials that will help the future generation of skilled tradespeople.
Jamie-Lee joined Blue Dog Training in 2017. Her position as Client Service Officer enables her to provide guidance for students undergoing the Blue Dog Training White Card course. She enjoys the work/life balance that Blue Dog Training has afforded her, and her team’s ability to work seamlessly together.
Joining the Blue Dog Training team in 2018, Jessica dedicates her career to supporting students who are completing their White Card training course. As a Client Service Officer, she looks forward to helping each student achieve their goal, and appreciates how welcoming and compassionate her colleagues are.
Maryanne is one of the newer members of the Blue Dog team, beginning her role as VETiS Support Officer in 2018. She enjoys working alongside the experienced VETiS team to facilitate the administrative process.
Natasha became a part of the Blue Dog Training administration team in 2014. Her position as Trades Support Officer allows her to extend a helping hand to our learners by guiding them through the enrolment process and providing general support throughout their course. She appreciates the comradery of her colleagues, and enjoys helping in any way she can.
As a Client Service Officer, Tyler has the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life. Joining the Client Services team in 2017, his position allows him to assist learners completing the Blue Dog Training White Card course online. Tyler appreciates the support and encouragement of his team, and enjoys helping others.
Rowena joined the Blue Dog Training team in 2018. As a Trades Support Officer, Rowena focuses her career on helping Blue Dog Training students through the enrolment process so they can begin their studies as quickly and efficiently as possible. She enjoys assisting the learners, and is grateful for the support and guidance of her colleagues.
Kaitlin’s position as a receptionist allows her to communicate with clients on a daily basis. In 2018 she brought her exceptional reception experience and skills to the Blue Dog Training team. She appreciates the opportunity to interact with learners who visit our head office, and providing assistance with any enquiries they may have. She also enjoys the company of her colleagues, who are supportive and dedicated to their careers.
After owning a plumbing, gas and maintenance business in South Africa, Michael moved to Australia to further his career and joined the Blue Dog Training team in 2018. Michael’s role as Office and Maintenance Officer allows him to oversee the assets, external contracts/contractors, and general maintenance at Blue Dog Training. He enjoys the change in his career path, and is appreciative of his colleagues, who are always willing to provide assistance and encouragement.
Ryan is the leading mind behind Blue Dog Training’s learning platform and systems. Joining Blue Dog Training in 2012, Ryan enjoys throwing himself into new projects and finds the ongoing evolution of Blue Dog Training’s website and learning platforms incredibly rewarding.
Beth started her development career in 2014 and after pursuing studies in Digital Media and Web Technologies, joined the Blue Dog Training team in 2016. Beth utilises her knowledge to assist in the ongoing development of the Blue Dog Training website and online learning platform. The challenges of the job, the opportunity to learn new technology, and the ability to brainstorm with her team all contribute to Beth’s enjoyment in her career.
Jacky joined Blue Dog Training as a Junior Web Developer in early 2017. He has enjoyed learning from his peers and using his skills to assist with the running of the Blue Dog Training website and learning platform. Jacky appreciates the support of his colleagues, and takes every opportunity to further his web development skills.
Johnson started his career in web development in 2005, and joined the Blue Dog Training Digital Development team in 2010. He is grateful for the opportunity to work remotely, and enjoys contributing to Blue Dog Training’s constantly improving and evolving website and learning platforms.
Josh joined Blue Dog Training in 2014, and has contributed significantly to the constant updates that the Blue Dog Training website and online learning platform requires to stay current and functional. He is glad to be part of a team that really values code quality, and appreciates the opportunity to work with the latest technologies in web development.
Rohin has been a website developer since 2016, joining the Blue Dog Training team in 2018. As a junior web developer, he assists in keeping the website and learning platform running for optimum performance. While the position is challenging, he appreciates his approachable and supportive colleagues and the feeling of accomplishment he gets when he hurdles a difficult task.
As the Creative Lead at Blue Dog Training, Mitchell manages the animation and graphic design staff, delegating and overseeing all creative media content. A friendly and familiar face in the office, Mitch has been with Blue Dog since 2014, and enjoys engaging in innovative and challenging work, contributing to the diverse and positive atmosphere with his forward-thinking outlook.
Brittany first started her graphic design career in 2008, becoming a part of the Blue Dog Training team in 2016. Her position as Senior Graphic Designer allows her to expend her creative energy by bringing innovative ideas to fruition and building a design platform for Blue Dog Training.
Geoff has been a part of the creative design team at Blue Dog Training since 2014. He is the mastermind behind the animations, motion graphics, and videos for Blue Dog Training’s online training platform and marketing content. He enjoys having a fulfilling career, and the creative outlook it provides.
Belinda joined the Blue Dog Training team in 2011 as a Client Service Officer, and then brought her design and animation skills to the Creative team in 2016 as an Animator and Graphic Designer. Her job gives her the opportunity to utilise her artistic skills to create engaging learning resources and marketing material for Blue Dog.
Jacob joined Blue Dog Training in 2016 as a Marketing Assistant. He enjoys telling the story of Blue Dog and its remarkable apprentices and employers. Jacob finds satisfaction in being able to help the company communicate with potential clients through diverse digital channels.
Joining the Blue Dog Training team in 2018, Mel began her marketing career late 2016. As part of the marketing team, Mel enjoys finding innovative ways to spread the word about Blue Dog Training. She finds satisfaction in seeing results, and is glad to be part of a committed and enthusiastic team.
