Gavin has been in the industry since 2004 and joined Blue Dog Training in 2025, bringing strong boilermaking and machining experience. He helps apprentices understand that welding is not just pulling a trigger, it takes control, preparation, and pride in the result.
His advice for new starters is to be ready for hard work and hot, dirty days. He believes strong communication is a key skill early on, as it prevents mistakes and keeps everyone safer. Welding is the skill that took him the longest to develop, and he is always learning. His safety message is simple, wear safety glasses, always.
Gavin would love to try underwater welding one day. He enjoys passing on his knowledge and watching apprentices build real confidence. A fun fact, he is also a published poet.
