    Blue Dog Training’s MEM40119 Certificate IV in Engineering is interactive, self-paced and hands-on.

    This nationally recognised qualification has been specifically developed to be delivered to:

    • People who are existing engineering tradespersons
    • Workers who have extensive industry experience, but do not have recognised qualifications
    • Apprentices in an engineering trade who choose to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship (Higher Engineering Trade).

    The qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as a:

    • Higher Engineering Tradesperson
    • Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) – Level II
    • Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Fabrication) – Level II

    Within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries, or at equivalent levels in other industries where engineering tradespersons work.

    To be awarded the MEM40119 Certificate IV in Engineering – Higher Engineering Trade, units of competency to the value of 132 points must be achieved, chosen as outlined below:

      • Core units of competency (totalling 33 points)
      • Elective units of competency to a minimum value of 12 points from Groups A
      • Elective units of competency to a maximum value of 87 points from Group B to bring the total value to 132 points

    NOTE: Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) will be taken into consideration and will affect the structure of the Elective units undertaken within the course.

    Career Boost Program - General Information

    In Queensland, this qualification is funded by the Queensland Government under two programs through the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET), which provide a Queensland Government subsidy:

    • DTET Career Boost – General Training program – if you are an existing tradesperson and/or have extensive industry experience
    • DTET Career Boost – Apprenticeship program – for an apprenticeship

    Career Boost Program - General Training Program
    Eligibility

    To be eligible for the DTET Career Boost – General Training program subsidy/Government contribution you must:

    • Aged 15 years or older
    • Not be a school student
    • Be a permanent Queensland resident
    • Be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen
    • Not already have a Certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualification) completed within the last 10 years (qualifications started as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications, do not count)
    • Not be enrolled in any other qualification, whether funded or unfunded, except for foundation skills qualifications
    Student Co Contribution Fees

    The total amount of student co-contribution fees you will be required to pay will depend on the units of competency selected and the points allocated to these. On this basis student co-contribution fees are determined as follows:

    • $1.60 per nominal hour, standard rate, OR
    • $0.64 per nominal hour, concessional rate.

    Government Funding Rules

    As you can only access the DTET Career Boost – Apprenticeship program subsidy once, it is important that you take the time to carefully consider your training options before committing to a course of study. Further information regarding the Department of Education and Training Higher Level Skills program can be found at https://training.qld.gov.au/providers/funded/higher-level-skills

    Career Boost Program - Apprenticeships Program
    Eligibility

    To be eligible for the DTET Career Boost – Apprenticeship program subsidy/government contribution you must:

    • Are currently employed as a Queensland apprentice (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship qualification through this Program
    • Not be a school student
    • Not currently be enrolled in any other qualification, whether funded or unfunded, except for foundation skills qualifications
    • Not already have a Certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualification) completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications, do not count)
    • Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10-year period.
    Student Co-Contribution Fees

    Co-contribution fees apply and are paid over the duration of the apprenticeship. Approximately $2100 depending on selected units. Concessions may apply for eligible learners, reducing the co-contribution fee to approximately $840. Further details can be found in the Blue Dog Training Student Handbook.     Government Funding Rules

    Apprentices can only receive one government contribution for a Career Boost - Apprenticeship funded qualification at any single point in time, i.e. a student is not funded to undertake two funded apprenticeships or traineeships at the same time.
