Reece Creswell recently took out a Silver Medal in the division of Carpentry at the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition.
Reece is a 3rd year Blue Dog Apprentice under the guidance of his trainer Joel Kemp and his employer of three years,
Clem Carpentry. He feels pretty great about participating in the competition and was surprised to win the Silver Medal, as the task turned out to be a lot more complex than he initially thought! “When they told us we were going to build a sawhorse, I originally thought that it would be really easy,” said Reece “But it turned out to be a little bit of a challenge”.
Marc and Holly Clements of Clem Carpentry think that Reece’s win is fantastic for the young apprentice. “Reece is very deserving of the award and we are proud of him. He works hard every day.” Marc and Holly have found the blended training excellent for their business, as Reece has been able to combine the theory and practical well. “He’s a very diligent apprentice, eager to learn, and an integral part of the Clem Carpentry team.”
The young apprentice has a great relationship with his Blue Dog trainer Joel, and aside from training they have found a lot of common interests to talk about. “Joel’s a good trainer, because he’s really easy to talk to and it’s been great getting to know each other.”
“I was stoked that Reece accepted the invitation to compete in WorldSkills.” said his trainer Joel. “His enthusiasm for learning and for the trade in general is highly commendable. It’s been a pleasure to be part of his journey towards becoming a fully qualified tradesman.”
Reece is keen to enter the next WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition in 2017, to have another shot at the Gold Medal. With his great carpentry skills and armed with his can-do attitude, we think he’s definitely a contender in 2017 – Watch this space!
