WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition Winner - Justin Franklin

Justin Franklin showed an immense amount of skill and love for his trade, taking home the Gold Medal for Carpentry in Brisbane at the WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition.

Justin became a qualified Carpenter at Daklen Building Group at the end of last year, as a result of his apprenticeship with the company and Blue Dog Training.  He was nominated by Blue Dog Training as Apprentice of the Year in 2014, to recognise his consistently impressive skills and his great attitude towards training as a Carpenter.

“I’m pretty stoked about winning the Gold Medal, and now I’d like to turn it into another win at the Nationals” he said.  The National Competition will take place in October 2016, but despite the long wait Justin says he’s ready to do his best.

Working for Daklen Building Group for 5 years, his employer sees Justin as a huge credit to the company.   “With a keen eye for details, Justin always puts 110% into every aspect of his work.” said Eric Passfield, of Daklen Building Group. “We are continually receiving commendations from our clients on his work ethic and skill.”

Justin has a great bond with his Blue Dog trainer Kerry Theuerkauf.  “When I was struggling with my apprenticeship Kerry was a massive help with the theory side of things” Justin said about his experience with Blue Dog Training.

His trainer Kerry believes that Justin’s performance at the WorldSkills Australia Competition speaks volumes about the 23-year-old’s great work ethic.  “Without a doubt his passion for carpentry and enthusiasm throughout his apprenticeship has contributed to the fine tradesman that he is today.”

Kerry and the rest of the Blue Dog Team are very excited to cheer on Justin in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition next year in Melbourne.
