The majority of working Queenslanders put in a hard days work and come home a little tired or dirty, but safe. Tragically though, around 17 Queenslanders die each year as a result of traumatic workplace incidents and over 5,000 suffer a permanent injury. These deaths and injuries carry with them a devastating and personal impact on workers and families, with a significant financial cost to the Queensland community.
Safe Work Month is the perfect time to remind people how they can continue to make Queensland workplaces safer.
Football legend and sports presenter, Shane Webcke has been announced as Queensland's Workplace Health and Safety Ambassador. With a strong connection and public commitment to work safety, Shane is motivated by his father's memory. "I lost my Dad in a workplace incident, so I know first-hand that family and loved ones are the most important reason for work safety".
Passionate about safety in the workplace, Blue Dog Training focuses on the value and importance of safe work practices in all course material. "The market leader in issuing White Cards in Australia, our award-winning short courses and apprenticeship training packages not only teach basic principles of health and safety in the workplace, but provide information on preventing workplace injury and illness". Blue Dog CEO, Kristine Skippington said.
Held nationally each October, Safe Work Month shines a spotlight on healthy, safe and productive workplaces.
Blue Dog Director, Kris Andre, says safety is all encompassing. "It's not just about working safely with trade tools and equipment; it's also about the working environment. Our Tradies work outside in the heat of summer and the cold of winter; it is important that we teach them to be aware of additional and potential risks of weather on the work environment, and managing those risks to stay safe".
Public NRL fans, Blue Dog Training are excited to see a relatable ambassador associated with the Safe Work campaign. "It's great to see a familiar QLD icon leading such an important campaign" Brad Deas, Blue Dog Director said. "While important safety information is consistently shared in the construction industry through White Cards, safety inductions and training, it's great to see a familiar face leading the charge and sharing key messages of safe work practices".
Safe Work Month runs throughout October, with a number of events planned for each state. To attend one of the many planned events, Register Online.
