As you closed the front door this morning, leaving for work as you always do, what did you think about? Perhaps how prepared you are for the on-site inspection at 10, or where you should pick up your lunch today.
October is National Safe Work Month, and here are Blue Dog Training, Australia’s leading provider of White Cards to the Construction Industry, we want to encourage you to think about your safety at work.
The slogan for this year’s Queensland campaign is “Work safe for the moments that matter”. It is a strong reminder that by continuing to make our workplaces safe we make it possible for working Australians to continue coming home - to the things that matter - a little tired or dirty, but safe.
Tragically in 2015, this was not the reality for 191 Australians that went to work and never made it home. Thousands of workers are also affected by workplace safety incidents that range from minor injuries to serious permanent injuries. These deaths and injuries carry with them a devastating and personal impact on fellow co-workers, their families, their friends and our larger community.

Blue Dog Training is committed to focussing on the value and importance of safe work practices in all our course materials. We have developed a variety of safety awareness courses that reinforce the requirements of Australian workplaces to keep their staff safe.
“Our courses and apprenticeship training cover a variety of basic health and safety principles, to prevent workplace injury and illness,” Blue Dog Training CEO, Kristine Skippington said. “But it is also important to consider everyday health and mental health within workplaces, particularly within male dominated workplaces, as this demographic represents 96% of workplace related injuries and fatalities.”
As part of National Safe Work Month, we will be playing our part by encouraging all our staff, apprentices and their employers to consider all aspects of health and safety.
