On Thursday the 30th of May Grant Mills was named as the Manufacturing Vocational Education & Training Teacher/Trainer of the Year. This recognition is presented by Manufacturing Skills Queensland.
The category is open to trainers who display ongoing outstanding achievement providing nationally recognised manufacturing and engineering related training to students and apprentices. Grant was nominated by Blue Dog Training and supported by employers and apprentices that he services.
Grant has been involved in manufacturing, engineering and education for 25 years. He is a tradesman qualified in both Fitting and Turning and Boilermaking. He has also completed a Bachelor of Technology Education and has taught a wide range of learners from school students to apprentices to adult learners. His passion for teaching, learning and eye for quality came together when he started with Blue Dog Training as Engineering Manager in 2007. During this time he has earned the respect of his peers, apprentices, employers and industry bodies such as Manufacturing Skills Queensland. He strives to produce quality tradesmen which are the result of a collaborative effort between industry, employers, apprentices and Blue Dog Training.
During the acceptance speech Grant paid tribute to Blue Dog Training and said “Any one of the 12 Blue Dog trainers could be standing here receiving this award”.
One of Blue Dog Training’s apprentices was also a finalist at the awards. Chris Bevin was nominated in the category of Manufacturing Indigenous Student of the Year.
Chris is a young man with many talents in his work and sporting life. As a child he loved pulling things apart and seeing how they worked. The opportunity to follow his passion and work on mechanical equipment became a reality when he started with Coates Hire and commenced his Traineeship with Blue Dog Training. This has resulted in improved school results and attendance. He is a proud member of the Valley Roosters Rugby league team and Richo’s Boxing Gym. Chris has a firm focus on his future and the path he needs to follow to get there.
Blue Dog Training is very proud of Grant and Chris and their ongoing achievements.
