At Blue Dog Training we are always looking for ways we can support our employers and apprentices. One way we can do this is by helping employers find the best new apprentices to suit their business. We recently asked our employers to give us their views on what skills new apprentices should have for their ideal first day on the job.
Blue Dog had a huge response with the survey being completed by 118 of our employers. What they told us is that they want someone with a great attitude and communication skills that can complete basic tasks competently and safely. The table below describes the top 5 answers for each category.

Blue Dog Training is about to commence a Trade Start program, funded Construction Skills Queensland for 14 job seekers wishing to enter the construction industry. The results of the survey were used to select the participants and design the Training program. Students completing the course should be able to demonstrate to an employer that they can be an active and productive member of a construction team. Construction Skills Qld will also be providing attractive financial incentives to eligible employers who take on these young people into a full time apprenticeship.
The students need to complete 4 weeks of work experience as part of this program. There is no obligation for the employer to take the students on full time or provide payment for the work experience, but if you are in South East Qld and interested in taking a student for work experience or looking for a new apprentice please contact Geoff Chant at Blue Dog Training on 07 3166 3999.
