User Choice allows employers, together with their apprentices and/or trainees to negotiate directly with registered training organisations to arrange quality accredited training to meet their specific needs. Employers and their apprentices can choose which training organisation they want to deliver to their apprentices.

In less than 2½ years more than 1000 apprentice carpenters, with their employers, have chosen Blue Dog Training to deliver training to their apprentice carpenters. Blue Dog does no formal marketing and this exceptional growth has been through word of mouth by apprentices and employers experiencing a supportive, innovative and high quality training that is meeting their needs.

From the conception of Blue Dog as a training provider, a vision was formulated to become the leading provider of training in the construction industry by delivering high quality training with the following clear objectives for all training to:

  • Meet the needs of apprentices and employers
  • Take advantage of the skills and experience of employers by encouraging much greater involvement in the apprentice's training.
  • Bring apprenticeship training into the twenty first century and the era of technology
  • Introduce innovative techniques in training delivery which provide truly flexible delivery
  • Deal with skills shortages
  • Encourage employers to use their skills and experience to take responsibility for training and enhance the training outcomes
  • Deliver all theory, practical training and assessments in the language of the generation and the workplace
  • Allow the organisation to grow and expand not through formalized marketing strategies but through the quality of training, the uniqueness of the product, word of mouth and outstanding outcomes.

The incredible support Blue Dog Training has received from industry has encouraged its' staff to continue in their pursuit of providing training that meets the needs both of industry and of apprentices.
