More than 600 school students in over 40 schools are using the Blue Dog Training online resources to obtain a Certificate 1in Construction while at school in the Doorways 2 Construction Structured Workplace Learning Course. The intent of D2C is to engage industry with schools so there are real outcomes for young people, including employment, career choices and industry experience.
The Queensland Studies Authority has agreed that successful completion of this course will result in the awarding of two credit points towards the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
The first program of its type to award QCE credit points, the Doorways 2 Construction Structured Workplace Learning Course enables students to reinforce the skills they have gained in 'off site' training and develop employability skills.
Doorways 2 Construction students are required to complete 160 hours of Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) in addition to their formal vocational training in order to attain the QCE credits. These work placements are invaluable to industry learning, teaching skills outside the school environment.
